Hi all! I caught up with some of you in the studio today but just to make sure everyone sees:
the shiny interesting part is Amaco Dark Star, which is part of their new Cosmos line.
This was a test piece so I could get a sense of how the glaze behaves on a vertical surface. I didn’t know how much it would run so I only put it on to about halfway. I did 3 coats painted on the top, and 2 coats on the bottom part to avoid running.
the other glaze that is more matte is Amaco Satin Black. It oddly turned out bluer than I expected 🙃
I filled out the glaze request form to get Jared’s approval for this, so check with Jared before buying this glaze!
I also did two tiny test dishes with 4 coats of Dark Star - these came out a bit more like I had expected with more of a rainbow effect
If you are looking to experiment with
Potters Choice glazes, celadons or Cosmos, I'd definitely recommend checking out the AMACO Cone 5-6 glaze forum on Facebook. People in that group are super helpful and if you search a glaze name in the group you'll find tons of pics and inspiration 😊
Ha! I put in a note today because I was amazed by this glaze too!
I believe it’s one of the Amaco Cosmos glazes. Perhaps Dark Star!
It’s Renee’s!! It’s from Amaco
I saw that too! Does anyone know what it is?
