I'm making some crackle pots on the wheel by applying porcelain slip on a thrown cylinder, drying out the slip, then expanding + shaping it back on the wheel. I dried out the slip by moving my bat over to the heat gun.
I see on the FAQ page that we can't use hair dryers at the wheel for noise + dust concerns. How about torches? That would make my workflow a lot easier.
Also, if anyone has experience using propane vs butane I'm curious what's worked well for you. I already have a little butane creme brulee torch which would be convenient to use, but I've mostly seen potters using bigger propane torches for this purpose.
Torches are OK, just be mindful of the wooden furniture around you and be careful not to place the hot metal tip on anything. I have no personal experience with either, but I also see people mostly using the larger propane torches.
