Our best guess was the black wax on greenware (it didn’t look like underglaze to us) then some combo of lighter glazes it could still be seen through, but would love to know exactly how this was accomplished—it’s so cool!

This is a piece I made in Sarah’s class. We practiced water etching on porcelain. Thrown in porcelain, trimmed, and then applied three coats of black underglaze. once the underglaze was dry, I drew streaks with wax and let it dry for an hour before etching with a mudtool sponge around the waxed areas to expose the porcelain where there wasn’t wax to protect the underglaze. Bisqued and dipped once in amber crackle and archon blue.
